The thing about boy bands is that they are inherently choreographed, well-lit, dancing cliches. There's always a clear formula. Then there's the moves. And if you saw tonight's episode of Glee, everyone's pretty much into the joke.
So, it's really no surprise when the guys inevitably get on each others nerves, usually when they've been replaced by the next generation of pretty boys (or bad, but really not-so-bad boys). There's a big publicized breakup and then it's VH1 celebreality if they're lucky, or particularly skeezy.
The ones that do survive, though, come to embrace that inner cliche, and use it to their advantage. Case in point, these old relics: Backstreet Boys.
Sometimes old hat can still put together some decent moves and a catchy tune.
