Micmacs

French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet is back with what looks to be a thoroughly eccentric tale about a gunshot victim bent on revenge, and the motley crew he enlists along the way.

Micmacs is clearly not Quentin Tarantino revenge, but an odder, goofier version. It sounds just about right from the guy who gave reinvented the romantic comedy with Amelie.

Micmacs starts rolling out this weekend on the art-house circuit, so check your local listings this summer!

Pas besoin de lunettes noires pour te cacher personne te reconnait

Watching MTV lately you are bombarded with mini-promos for French poplet Yelle. Clearly not even trying to hide the fact that she probably would prefer a pain au chocolat with a cafe au lait in the mornings, this is an interesting move for the emo-urban network.

Power to MTV if they can finally turn on Americans to the joys of global pop. Somehow I am not getting my hopes up yet. You definitely get a good vibe from Yelle, but at some point, won't most people want to know what she is singing about?

Shark Attack!!!!

I had an odd conversation this weekend with someone from France who insisted that you shouldn't swim in the Mediterranean... because of sharks.

Between 1847 and 2006 there were apparently only four reported shark attacks in France. During that century and a half, there were just 39 attacks in ALL OF EUROPE.

To put this in perspective, In 2006 alone there were 38 recorded shark attacks in U.S. waters including Hawaii, and 62 worldwide.

Out six-or-so billion people, 62 were attacked by sharks last year.

I think the French can swim at ease...
