Madame, would Monsieur Fido prefer Evian or Pellegrino?

If you've been to a restaurant patio here in Denver lately you may have noticed signs telling you that your dog is not welcome to dine with you. This makes perfect sense to me, since I really don't go out to eat with animals.

Apparently this is a much bigger deal to some social puppy walkers in Cherry Creek North.

Recently in Westword, Jason Sheehan snuck in a great little nugget about the opportunity this brouhaha has created for a new restaurant there:

"Yes, that's right. Not only will French 250 — which is scheduled to open August 18 at 250 Steele Street in the old Bistro Adde Brewster space — walk and water your dog (courtesy of Poocharella dog-walking service), but it will be keeping a friggin' VIP list of the pets.

Honestly, I don't know how to respond to that."

Shark Attack!!!!

I had an odd conversation this weekend with someone from France who insisted that you shouldn't swim in the Mediterranean... because of sharks.

Between 1847 and 2006 there were apparently only four reported shark attacks in France. During that century and a half, there were just 39 attacks in ALL OF EUROPE.

To put this in perspective, In 2006 alone there were 38 recorded shark attacks in U.S. waters including Hawaii, and 62 worldwide.

Out six-or-so billion people, 62 were attacked by sharks last year.

I think the French can swim at ease...
